Nigeria's international electricity customers, Benin and Togo, owe $28.33 million (N37.44 billion) for ancillary services provided over three years, according to annual reports from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) covering 2023 to 2025. The debt is for services used to transfer electricity from generation plants to the state electricity companies of these countries, not for the electricity itself. The funds are owed to the Market Operator, formerly the Transmission Company of Nigeria. The reports also indicate that Nigeria's three international customers—Benin, Niger, and Togo—accumulated a total bill of $183.5 million for these services, supplied through their state-owned utilities: Societe Nigerienne d'Electricite (NIGELEC), Societe Beninoise d'Energie Electrique (SBEE), and Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo (CEET).
