The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that Nigeria's total external trade in the second quarter of 2026 reached N41.44 trillion, resulting in a trade surplus of N12.59 trillion. This surplus represents a 101.32% increase compared to the same quarter in 2025. The total trade value rose by 5.61% from N39.24 trillion in Q2 2025 and by 19.13% from N34.78 trillion in the preceding quarter. Exports accounted for 65.20% of total trade, valued at N27 trillion, an 18.77% increase from N22.75 trillion in Q2 2025 and a 27.64% increase from N21.16 trillion in Q1 2026. Crude oil remained Nigeria's major export, valued at N12.91 trillion in the quarter.
