The Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) is demanding an independent investigation into the payment of N14 billion to a contractor for an 11-kilometre section of the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha expressway. ANEEJ Executive Director Rev. David Ugolor raised concerns after the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, noted poor work progress during an inspection. The minister directed officials to track down the contractor's Managing Director, recover monies paid, and enforce the Advance Payment Guarantee. ANEEJ is calling for accountability and recovery of funds.
