At a diplomatic community event in Accra hosted by Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) showcased fonio, an ancient West African grain, to promote its benefits for food security, nutrition, climate resilience, and livelihoods. Visitors sampled fonio jollof prepared by Chef Fatmata Binta, FAO Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Africa, and many tried the grain for the first time, with positive reactions comparing it to rice, couscous, semolina, and quinoa. The initiative aimed to raise awareness of fonio's potential and its connection to heritage, the environment, and the livelihoods of African women.
