The Kano State Government has resolved to establish additional military bases and deploy forest guards in local government areas identified as prone to security challenges. The decision was reached at a meeting between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the 44 local government council chairmen. The meeting was attended by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Accountant-General of the state. The additional security measures followed discussions between Governor Yusuf and the Minister of Defence, and the government said the new security architecture would complement existing arrangements.
