Indonesia has reopened five airports that were closed for two days due to a volcanic eruption. The eruption of Anak Krakatau, which began late Friday, produced lava fountains and sent volcanic ash into parts of Jakarta and Lampung province. The closures disrupted nearly 3,000 flights and left more than 340,000 passengers stranded. The volcano remained active throughout the period, but authorities deemed it safe to resume operations.
