Several hospitals in Uganda's Busoga sub-region have experienced a four-month stock-out of essential sickle cell disease medicines, including Hydroxyurea. This was revealed during an oversight visit by Parliament's Health Committee on 8 September 2026. The committee expressed concern, noting that Jinja Regional Referral Hospital treats over 2,000 sickle cell patients monthly.
