A fake notice claiming that fintech company OPay would suspend operations circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, urging customers to withdraw their funds. OPay dismissed the notice as false and advised customers to rely on its verified communication channels. The incident caused some customers and point-of-sale operators to transfer funds from OPay accounts to other banks. A POS operator, Adeyemi Samuel, reported that many customers emptied their OPay accounts due to fear of a shutdown.
