A food safety expert, Dr. Adeniyi Odugbemi, has revealed that at least 53,000 deaths linked to unsafe food occur annually in Nigeria. Speaking at the fourth Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition organized by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Odugbemi urged stakeholders to adopt science-based solutions to prevent avoidable deaths. The conference, themed 'From Burden to Solution: Safe Food Everywhere,' took place at NECA House, Alausa, Lagos. Odugbemi, who is Global Director of Quality and Food Safety at Archer Daniels Midland, described unsafe food as a major public health and economic challenge.
