Former Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire, Patrick Achi, has warned African governments not to allow citizens to depend on grants and cash transfers in poverty alleviation. Speaking at the 2026 Gender and Inclusion Summit, he said such measures cannot become the economic model. He cautioned against creating a 'poverty-alleviation industry' that manages poverty without building mechanisms to end it.
