On September 8, Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Onishi Yohei, attended a homecoming ceremony for two Japanese officers who served as staff in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Major Iwasaki Shuji and Major Kikuchi Shogo were part of the 17th contingent of headquarters staff. Vice-Minister Onishi expressed gratitude for their service, which he said embodied Japan's friendship and assistance to South Sudan. Japan has been dispatching staff officers to UNMISS since 2011, with four currently serving in various roles.
