The government of Equatorial Guinea has demanded that large digital platforms like Meta pay taxes on profits earned in the country, following models used elsewhere. Vice President Nguema Obiang Mangue led a working session at the People's Palace in Malabo to define the Executive's position and open negotiations with digital service distributors. This occurred during a meeting to congratulate the Ministry of Transport on an agreement with Starlink to market satellite internet. The legal authority for selling the service will rest with ORTEL, under the State Secretariat for Artificial Intelligence, and local technicians will be trained for installation.
