The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has linked the indiscriminate consumption of alcohol to banditry in Nigeria. NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that excessive alcohol use can damage vital organs such as the brain, kidneys, and liver. She explained that the sale of alcohol in small sachets and PET bottles was approved decades ago but eventually became difficult to control. The agency's ban on such products is aimed at protecting the health and future of Nigerian children, despite criticism from some quarters.
