High customs duty threatens phone affordability – Dealers

Mobile phone dealers in Nigeria have urged the Federal Government to review the high customs duty imposed on imported phones, warning that the rising costs are making devices unaffordable for many Nigerians. The dealers, under the aegis of the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN), said the current duty rates have significantly increased the prices of phones. They argued that this development is negatively impacting the telecommunications sector and digital inclusion in the country. The dealers called on the government to consider reducing the duty to make phones more accessible to the populace.
