The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution titled 'Correct the Map: rebalancing global cartographic representation and promoting a more equitable representation of the world's regions' by a vote of 164 in favor, 1 against, and 6 abstentions. The resolution, tabled by Togo with the backing of the African Union, encourages governments, educational institutions, international organizations, media, and technology companies to adopt equal-area map projections, such as the Equal Earth projection, to accurately represent the true size of countries and continents. The adoption marks a shift from advocacy to global institutional action, as noted by Speak Up Africa and Africa No Filter, which launched the Correct the Map campaign.
