The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria appealed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to persuade President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The appeal was made during the 2026 Synod in Abuja, where bishops also expressed support for the Tinubu administration. Archbishop Robert Imoh, speaking for the South-East, made an emotional plea regarding Kanu's continued detention.
