UNAIDS is collaborating with the Zambian government, communities, and international partners to support the rollout of Lenacapavir, a new HIV prevention drug. Zambia received its first shipment of the twice-yearly injectable PrEP on September 1, 2026, at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. The drug is expected to accelerate HIV prevention efforts and protect gains made in the country's response to the epidemic. The shipment was received by Ministry of Health officials alongside US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Frank Garcia.
