The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has dismissed concerns that its new Device Management System (DMS) could expose users' personal data and communications. In a statement by its Director of Corporate Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, the NCC clarified that the DMS is designed solely for device identification and regulatory compliance. The system will maintain device identification information, including International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers, but will not provide access to user data or communications. The DMS is being deployed to strengthen Type Approval compliance for mobile devices in Nigeria.
