Reports of alleged misapplication or misappropriation of funds meant for poor citizens have led to calls for accountability from the federal government. The 2024 Audit Report of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation revealed discrepancies in the disbursement of cash transfers amounting to N33.751 billion to 3,295,207 households in the 2023 financial year. Civil society, media organizations, and oversight bodies are demanding explanations, while the government has remained silent on the matter.
