Tinubu described Williams as a distinguished Nigerian whose contributions to scholarship, literature, journalism, and intellectual discourse have enriched society. He also acknowledged Williams' career as a university teacher and scholar, particularly in African literature, culture, and society. Sanwo-Olu also commended Williams in a separate message.
