The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commenced the process of strengthening monitoring and enforcement of its Type Approval requirements through a technology-enabled framework. The move is in line with its mandate to ensure that communications devices imported, sold, and used in Nigeria meet applicable technical and regulatory standards. The initiative will use a Device Management System (DMS) as the technology platform to electronically determine Type Approval compliance of SIM-enabled devices. The NCC stated that this will improve oversight of the device ecosystem.
