The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, announced a redeployment of senior military officers as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against insecurity. Major-General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who served as Theatre Commander of Operations Hadin Kai and Joint Task Force North East for 16 months in Maiduguri, has been reassigned to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research. Major-General Ibukunkle Ajose takes over as Theatre Commander after moving from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations. Abubakar had succeeded Shaibu as Theatre Commander in April 2025 following Shaibu's appointment as Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu.
