The National Sports Commission announced that zonal eliminations for team sports for the 23rd National Sports Festival, Coal City Games 2026, will take place from September 12 to 15 across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. The sports involved are basketball, cricket, football, and volleyball/beach volleyball, in both male and female categories. The top two teams from each zone will qualify for the festival, which is scheduled for Enugu from November 27 to December 11. Host state Enugu has automatic qualification in all team sports, and the Main Organising Committee has directed zonal coordinators to submit proposed venues.
