Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned the persistence of insecurity in Nigeria, arguing that modern technology should enable the government to locate individuals and respond more effectively to criminal activities. In an exclusive interview with ARISE News on Thursday, Obi responded to questions on how his administration would tackle kidnappings and ransom demands. He argued that advances in technology had made it possible for governments to determine the locations of individuals, questioning why such capabilities had not been effectively deployed to combat criminal activities. He also questioned the deployment of government surveillance resources, suggesting that capabilities allegedly used to monitor political opponents should instead be directed towards tracking criminals.
