Student-loan borrowers risk being forced into the most expensive repayment plan if they don't take action this month

The first deadline for certain student-loan borrowers to transition off the SAVE repayment plan is September 29. Borrowers are being notified in waves of their 90-day window to select a new plan. If they fail to choose a new plan, they will be automatically placed in a standard repayment plan, which carries the most expensive monthly payments. The Trump administration eliminated the SAVE plan, and servicers began notifying borrowers on July 1.
