The United Nations and its humanitarian partners are supporting Rwanda's efforts to prepare for a potential Ebola outbreak. On September 3, the UN trained nearly 200 community health officers on infection prevention and control, early detection, reporting and referral, risk communication, and managing rumours. An assessment was also conducted at border crossing points and health facilities to evaluate screening procedures, detection mechanisms, isolation and referral capacity, staff preparedness, and risk communication systems. Additionally, the UN is supporting infection prevention and hygiene efforts at the Rugerero Ebola Treatment Centre in Western Province, including training Red Cross volunteers and ambulance personnel. Rwanda has reported no confirmed Ebola cases but remains at higher risk due to its proximity to affected areas.
