Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has launched a $1 million food security project to help vulnerable farming communities withstand floods and drought. The 12-month initiative, titled 'Protecting Food Security Against Recurring Floods and Drought,' is being implemented by Mercy Corps Nigeria with support from the Katsina State Development Management Board, the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and development partners. During the unveiling in Katsina, Governor Radda described climate change as a reality that requires collective action and practical interventions to protect the environment, improve agricultural production, and strengthen food security. He noted that Katsina, as an agrarian state, has a large population dependent on agriculture for livelihoods, stressing the need to protect land and water resources.
