Why I’ll Retain Tinubu’s Forex Liberalisation — Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has stated that he will retain President Bola Tinubu's liberalization of the foreign exchange market if elected president in 2027. In an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Obi explained that he would not defend the naira through interventions but would focus on boosting productivity to strengthen the economy. He also expressed support for the removal of fuel subsidy by the Tinubu administration, which led to a sharp increase in petrol prices from about N238 per litre in May 2023 to between N1,310 and N1,350 per litre. Obi argued that some of the economic reforms are necessary.
