Blackstone announced a joint venture with Google in May, pledging $5 billion to acquire 500 megawatts of Google's tensor processing units for a new company that would supply computing power to leading AI firms. According to a person familiar with the effort, Blackstone now anticipates purchasing several multiples beyond the originally announced number of TPUs. This would likely commit tens of billions of dollars to securing multiple gigawatts of AI chips, though Blackstone declined to specify the exact additional quantity. Jas Khaira, who leads Blackstone's N1 team focused on AI investments, said in an interview that the firm's biggest conviction bet continues to be compute.
