Eritrean nationals in several Australian cities and various cities in New Zealand commemorated the 65th anniversary of the start of the armed struggle for independence. At the event in Melbourne, Eritrea's Consul General, Mr. Endrias Abraham, described Bahti Meskerem as a historic day that showed no force could suppress the Eritrean people's aspiration for independence. He said the struggle aimed at achieving national independence and building a developed Eritrea, and the occasion renews the pledge of the Eritrean people and the PFDJ to realize this goal. Mr. Kidane Ginbot, chairman of the Eritrean community in Victoria, thanked organizations and participants for the colorful event.
