The UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan warned that renewed violence, political tensions, shrinking civic space, corruption, and impunity continue to endanger the population and the planned transition to democracy. During a four-day visit, the Commission met with government, political, security, civil society, and other stakeholders. They urged authorities to protect civilians, allow humanitarian access, and create conditions for inclusive political dialogue ahead of December elections. South Sudan gained independence in 2011, but civil war erupted less than three years later and continues despite a 2018 peace agreement.
