The Cross River State Government has cancelled its 2024/2025 local government recruitment exercise following allegations of job racketeering, sale of employment slots, and other irregularities. The decision was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Anthony Owan-Enoh, after a panel reviewed the recruitment conducted by the now-defunct Local Government Commission. The panel found that the exercise lacked executive approval from the governor and violated public service ethics, laws, and financial regulations. It also cited institutional complicity, incompetence, lack of transparency, and poor accountability. Consequently, the entire exercise has been nullified, except for 83 CROSIEC personnel who were originally recruited.
