Noah Okafor, a 26-year-old forward for Leeds United, has announced he will no longer play for the Swiss national team under head coach Murat Yakin. Okafor cited a breakdown in trust with the current leadership, stating that commitments were not kept and that he was hurt by reactions to minor mistakes during a match against Algeria. He made the announcement in a statement on his Instagram account on Thursday. Okafor, who has earned 26 caps since his debut in 2019, clarified that his decision was not related to his limited playing time at the World Cup, where he featured for only 19 minutes as a substitute.
