Stakeholders in Nigeria's aviation industry have acknowledged a severe shortage of technical personnel, leading the federal government to recall and retain retired experts on contract to fill critical operational gaps. Factors contributing to the shortage include mass retirements of older personnel without adequate replacements, as local training schools struggle to meet demand. The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Zaria recently raised concerns over insufficient functional infrastructure, including periods when only six aircraft were airworthy, forcing rationing of training hours for student pilots. Industry analyst Dr Alex Nwuba, second Vice President of the Aviation Round Table, stated that Nigeria would never fill its aviation job gap.
