Workers of the Federal Ministry of Education protested at the ministry's headquarters in Abuja on Thursday over the reported 35-year concession of King's College, Lagos, to its old boys' association. Under the Joint Workers Union, they threatened to indefinitely shut down the ministry and all 115 Federal Unity Colleges nationwide if the concession is not reversed. In a related development, the African Principals Conference Initiative called on the federal government to halt the concession, warning that ending budgetary allocations to the institution would abdicate the government's responsibility to fund public education.
