The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has awarded N3 million in cash prizes to nine winners of its 2026 National Essay Competition on disaster management. The winners were drawn from senior secondary schools, tertiary institutions and the NYSC Emergency Management Vanguards. At the unveiling at NEMA Headquarters in Abuja, Director-General Mrs Zubaida Umar said the competition aimed to strengthen disaster awareness, emergency preparedness and resilience among young Nigerians. She said the large volume of entries extended the assessment period, and each entry passed through assessment, validation and corroboration. Each of the nine winners received N500,000.
