The Lagos State government has intensified efforts to address flooding, regulate sand dredging, and improve management of its waterfronts and waterways. The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, said in an interactive session with newsmen in Lagos that the administration's approach is to move beyond reacting to flooding after it occurs and instead identify factors responsible for water accumulation and put appropriate interventions in place. He noted that the success of flood management should not be judged simply by whether flooding occurred, but by how quickly floodwater drained after rainfall. He emphasised the need to understand the factors responsible and implement the right interventions.
