Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) President Victor Ochei has praised Seun Ogunsakin's historic victory at the US Open Junior Championships, calling it evidence that Nigerian tennis is regaining its place on the global stage. Ogunsakin ended a 35-year wait for a Nigerian Grand Slam main-draw singles victory with his landmark win at the junior tournament in New York. According to the NTF, the achievement makes Ogunsakin the first Nigerian since tennis legend Nduka Odizor in 1990 to win a Grand Slam main-draw singles match; Odizor achieved the feat at the Australian Open that year. Ochei said the achievement vindicated the federation's focus on grassroots development, international exposure, and creating opportunities for young Nigerian players.
