Nigerian Bishop Shot Dead In South Africa, NICASA Demands Investigation

The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) reported that Bishop Taiwo Michael Fakunle, a 58-year-old Nigerian cleric from Ekiti State, was killed at his residence in Kensington, Johannesburg, on Friday, September 4, 2026. According to NICASA National President Rev. Frank Onyekwelu, two unknown suspects gained access to the cleric's home and shot him multiple times. NICASA said it has formally notified the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg, and a murder case has been opened at the Jeppe Police Station. The association called on the South African Police Service and Nigerian diplomatic representatives to ensure a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
