The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit has begun plans to establish a Joint Financial Intelligence Collaboration framework aimed at strengthening intelligence sharing between public and private sector institutions. The unit mobilised regulators, banks, insurance companies, fintechs, Virtual Asset Service Providers, technology firms and other stakeholders to identify emerging financial threats and disrupt illicit financial networks. The agency recently uncovered a crowdfunding network being exploited to raise and channel funds for terrorist operations. It also revealed that terrorist financiers were opening bank accounts in women's names and using phone numbers not registered to account holders or true beneficiaries for mobile banking and account alerts.
