The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has identified excessive loading of vehicles as a major factor that accelerates vehicle deterioration, increases crash rates and contributes to premature deterioration of road infrastructure. Speaking in Abuja at the National Breakfast Policy Dialogue and Launch of the National Movement for Safe Loading and Safe Roads, he said the danger lies not only in the weight of the load but also in what is carried, how it is combined, positioned and scaled. He noted that overloading compromises braking, steering and vehicle stability. He described overloading and other unsafe loading practices as preventable risks that must be addressed before vehicles enter Nigerian roads.
