Communities in Akobo County, South Sudan, have endured years of violence, political divisions, and cycles of revenge that displaced families, destroyed livelihoods, and eroded trust. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is working alongside them to help rebuild confidence and create an environment where people can live together peacefully. As part of these efforts, a two-day workshop involving 81 local authority and community representatives was held to discuss ways to prevent violence through strengthening security and governance processes, building resilience, and improving service delivery and the restoration of necessary infrastructure. Akobo County Commissioner John Wiyual explained how conflict has divided communities along political lines and said the workshop is crucial to bringing the community together to resolve differences and reconcile.
