The Federal Government has declared that instructional materials scoring below 70 per cent will no longer qualify for national ranking. The new standard follows the first-ever national textbook assessment and ranking exercise conducted by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), which revealed quality gaps in submitted books, with some scoring as low as 25 per cent. Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, while receiving the assessment report in Abuja, said the government cannot tolerate poorly written, inaccurate, or curriculum-incompatible textbooks. He described some textbooks currently used in primary and secondary schools as unacceptable.
