Human Rights Watch reported that criminal gangs in Kenya have carried out violent attacks targeting civil society and opposition gatherings ahead of the 2027 elections. Over the past few months, unidentified armed groups have attacked a civil society event and several opposition political gatherings, reportedly killing at least six people and injuring dozens more. The authorities have not taken meaningful steps to ensure accountability. HRW called on Kenyan authorities to conduct prompt and transparent investigations and to ensure people can exercise their political rights without fear of violence.
