Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Tinubu Presidency of distorting concerns raised by Dangote Refinery to discredit his production subsidy proposal. In a statement by his aide Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said Dangote Refinery was right to warn against arbitrary pump-price controls, but the Presidency misrepresented his plan. He argued that a private refinery cannot be forced to sell below cost and absorb losses, calling such a move economically destructive. Atiku maintained that his proposal aims to move subsidy from importation to production.
