Christos Garkinos, founder of Covet by Christos, went about $500,000 into debt in his late 50s despite having a relatively high salary. He grew up in a Greek immigrant family in Detroit, where his parents owned a diner and he learned early that success meant money in the till. After his father was diagnosed with lung cancer and the business failed, Garkinos feared ending up like his father, who died young with no money. Now in his 60s, he is rebuilding his finances and became debt-free in under two years.
