Ahead of the 2027 elections, where 28 governorship seats are up for grabs, correspondents report that the tempo and fervour of the contest vary from state to state, noting that the political battle would be most intriguing in at least nine states due to the issues and personalities involved. The states are Katsina, Kebbi, Bauchi, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, Oyo, Gombe and Niger. While the chances of some are hampered by anti-party squabbles, there are those affected by unresolved disputes from primaries and other issues like parties not having enough structures on the ground. The incumbency factor, according to observations, may work in favour of some of the candidates in office but may not matter in others.
