An Islamic cleric, Malam Musa Lukuwa, was stabbed in the neck shortly after leading Juma'at prayer at his mosque in the Mabera area of Sokoto. The suspect, who was among the worshippers, attacked the cleric immediately after the prayer and was subsequently overpowered and beaten to death by worshippers. The incident was reportedly linked to a previous sermon in which the cleric cited a Hadith that some scholars considered offensive. The cleric and his followers had earlier reported a threat to the police after a young man allegedly threatened to kill him and his senior student.
