2 dead as FCT records diphtheria outbreak

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has confirmed two deaths from a diphtheria outbreak in Abuja. Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of Health Services and Environmental Secretariat, disclosed that 15 suspected cases were investigated, with five laboratory-confirmed cases and two deaths. Several patients have been treated and discharged. Fasawe said measures have been activated to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread, and she explained that diphtheria is a severe bacterial infection affecting the nose, throat, and sometimes skin.
