Vivian Uwakwe, a Nigerian author and illustrator, entered children's book publishing after an unexpected return to a childhood gift she had almost abandoned. Raised by Peter Uwakwe, a textile designer and storyteller, she was exposed to drawing, writing, and creativity from an early age, but her father discouraged her from pursuing art professionally due to financial concerns. She studied science in secondary school, earned a degree in Estate Management from the University of Nigeria, worked in banking, obtained a master's degree in the United Kingdom, and later moved into consulting. Uwakwe now advocates for Nigerian children to have books that reflect their identity.
